Meursault is very cold and detached, diligent but not exceptional at his job and it's almost like he is drifting from one moment to the other without examining his life.

At the beginning of the story the reader sees his indifference when his own mother's death does not faze him in the slightest, if anything he saw it as a hindrance and all the weeping at the mortuary made him annoyed. It is also seen later on, when he takes a bus ride back to his home and he is filled with joy at the prospect of sleeping well, showing how he genuinely does not care.

This makes Meursault difficult to categorize already because I can't call him a bad guy since he technically didn't commit any harm at any given moment, but I can't call him a good guy either because he hasn't shown any "heroic" traits so for now I will be calling him interesting.
